Terms and Conditions

The parent or guardian authorizes the student to take part in the following Driver Education Course. The course may consist of the following types of instruction: Online Course: The student will be responsible for their username and password. If the student has technical difficulties, they can contact the support team on the web platform of the course. Do not contact Coaching Safe Driving for technical support issues with the online course. The student will be allowed 90 days to complete the online course. If the course is not completed in 90 days, the student will have to take the course again. If the online course is not completed within 90 days, it is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to contact Coaching Safe Driving within 15 days prior to the course expiration in regards to purchasing an extension. The communication must be sent in writing via email. Coaching Safe Driving reserves the right to approve or disapprove any course extension. The online course is an approved course by the Iowa Department of Transportation. The student must be at least 14 years of age by the beginning of class. Verification by Iowa Driver's Permit required. This online course consists of thirty one-hour lessons of classroom instruction. A class grade of 80% must be obtained through online assessments. If a student fails one of the 30 online assessments, they will be required to take the lesson again. They will be allowed 3 attempts to pass each of the 30 online assessments. They may take notes and use their notes on the assessments. Once they have completed an online lesson and passed the assessment, the student, parent and instructor will receive an email confirming the completion of the online lesson and then they can advance to the next lesson. A student may work through the online lessons at any pace they so choose until completion of the online program. After completing all 30 online lessons and assessments, a certificate of completion will be generated.

Driving Instruction

Students will receive a minimum of 6 hours of Behind the Wheel (BTW) instruction, which includes five drives and a final drive assessment. All road tests are based on Department of Transportation performance objectives. Students that successfully complete and pass the online course and the Final Drive Assessment may be certified at this point. BTW instruction must be completed no later than 30 days after the online course has been completed. BTW instruction can begin as soon as the student is registered, paid, and has scheduled drive times with the instructor. BTW instruction does not need to coincide with the online portion of the program. An alternative Driving Instruction program is offered through Coaching Safe Driving at a reduced cost. In this alternative approach, the Student registered will be able to access the online course portion of the program through Coaching Safe Driving and can drive with their parents as the BTW instructors. In this alternative approach, the Student will complete the online course portion, the parent-instructed driving portion, and then will take the Final Drive Assessment with the Iowa DOT. Fees: The total course fee depends on the package selected at the time of enrollment. All forms of payment must be received in full prior to the start of the online course or the BTW portion of the program in order to receive a completion certificate for the Iowa DOT. All certificates are submitted online. You will NOT receive a paper copy. The school district does not require proof of certification for the approval of the school permit. The Iowa DOT will make the final approval on the issuance of a school permit. There will be a $50.00 charge assessed if a student fails to show up for a scheduled driving lesson or Final Drive Assessment that must be paid before final drive. A parent must provide notice within 24 hours by phone, text or email to the Instructor the drive lesson was scheduled with Coaching Safe Driving. If the notice cannot be given within 24 hours due to a family emergency, please contact Coaching Safe Driving who will determine if late cancellation fees are due and will notify the instructor. If the student fails the Final Drive test, the student may pay a $100 fee to retake the final drive or the parent or guardian may choose to accept a certificate that states the student must drive for the Iowa DOT to receive their license. If the latter is selected, we cannot test the student again. The only way we can test the student again is if the student takes the full Driver Education course again. Coaching Safe Driving will conduct the BTW instruction in a dual controlled automobile, fully insured, covering each student enrolled in the program.

Behavioral Expectations

Students are expected to be at the appropriate pick up location on time for their lesson. Our instructors do their best to return from BTW sessions with other students on-time, but sometimes things happen. Please be patient and do not leave unless you have spoken with the instructor and heard of a change. Proper attire, including closed toe shoes (no sandals or flip-flops) is required. Coaching Safe Driving pledges to treat your student with respect and courtesy and expects the same in return from the student.
